A privately-held bank with a long history in the community

The Challenge

In order to continue to sustain and expand one of its critical service lines, this privately held family-owned bank located in a rural city in the Dakotas needed to hire a chief deposit officer for its retail banking business. The challenge was finding a qualified individual with big bank experience and the ability to thrive in a small bank/small city environment. Additionally, the candidate needed to fit in with a leadership team that includes several generations of the founders’ family members. While the client had worked with executive search firms only a handful of times in its history, they selected TalentRISE for this engagement based on our track record in the industry and our expertise in finding and attracting a good cultural fit.


After convincing the senior team that the market for talent had changed significantly since their last external search, TalentRISE’s team embarked on a path to find passive senior level talent with the needed qualifications, willingness to relocate to a small community and the ability to be effective in a family-run business with a unique culture based on consensus-building. We helped them hire an individual who fit all of the criteria, and having grown up in that city, the ability to fit back in. In addition, we are offering executive coaching to ensure his success in a working environment that operates differently than his past job at a global bank.
